Developing My “Voice” Through Weekly Blogging

Now that my weekly blogging assignment for my Professional Writing class is wrapping up, I’ve been thinking about what this whole experience actually taught me. When we first started, the idea of writing a post every single week felt a little overwhelming. I wasn’t sure I’d have enough to say, or that anyone would even want to read it. But somewhere along the way, it became something I looked forward to—almost like a little check-in with myself.

Some weeks were easy. I knew exactly what I wanted to write about, and the words came pretty naturally. Other weeks…not so much. There were days when I stared at my blank screen, hoping an idea would magically appear. But oddly enough, those harder weeks ended up being the most helpful. They taught me to write even when I wasn’t feeling wildly inspired, and to trust that showing up consistently matters. I like the freedom to be honest, to try different topics that mattered to me, and not worry so much about being perfect. What I didn’t love where the moments when the deadline crept up, and I wished I had started sooner—but that’s it own lesson in itself, too.

It surprises me how useful this kind of regular writing could be for a company, whether my own or one I work for. Weekly blogs could help employees share ideas, talk about projects, or just let their personality show a bit more. For customers, blogs make a business feel more real and relatable. It’s one thing to see a company’s polished website, but it’s another to hear their voice and see their thought processes. Writing creates connection in a way that doesn’t feel forced or scripted.

Honestly, I think this blog and website will be good for me in my future. It’s a place where someone—whether a future employer, a collaborator, or even a potential student—can get a sense of who I am beyond a bullet-point résumé. They can see how I communicate, how I think, and how I follow through on something over time. That’s valuable no matter what direction I take next.

Overall, this assignment ended up being so much more meaningful that I expected. It became a space to grow, reflect, and share a little piece of my world, my “voice”, each week. And I’m glad I get to keep it with me moving forward.
